Valentines Day – Card Making
Hello and Welcome to Easy-Card Making
As we are getting very close to Valentines day I was wondering if you have already made your Valentines cards yet or if you have left it until now to start.
I always make my own Valentines cards. Usually I tend to make them soppy and romantic for the one I love rather than funny and I love to use the Glitter Girls Embossing boards to give my cards that special look with fancy edges, embossed hearts or perhaps a “bookatrix” book style card. This is the image of a card I made for a Wedding Anniversary but you could easily put a heart, flower or photo in the middle instead of wedding bells.
I sometimes punch out a lacy edge and position it to run along side by the embossed edging adding a rather more Victorian traditional hearts and lace look or a stamped image of a Victorian or Elegant 30’s style Lady.
Other times I will make a more modern simple card using card stock and patterned papers with hearts and flower shapes.
Here in the UK the tradition is to send Valentines just to the person you Love (your partner) or to the person you would like to be your partner or date and it is traditional if you are sending a Valentines to someone you fancy to leave it anonymous so they have to guess who it is from.
It is great when you are at School or Work and you receive a mystery Valentines card and you aren’t sure who it is from. In fact sometimes it is better not to know who it came from to avoid any possible disappointment. However it can be a bit embarrassing or upsetting if you don’t receive any cards whilst your best friend has just received 4 of them.
I think this problem has probably been solved in the USA because as I understand it, Valentines are sent to Family and Friends as well as Lovers, Partners and Dates and presumably no-one is then left out.
I am not sure how you would make a Valentines card for a friend perhaps with flowers rather than hearts or maybe a picture of a cute animal or a girlie card with hats and shoes.
If you have made valentines cards for Loved ones, friends and family perhaps you can add a comment below with details about the card or send me some photos of your designs with a description or how you made them to info so that I can add them to the website.
Or if you have made a Valentines card or received a hand made card and you would like to send me a photo of it to add to a Photo Gallery of cards, then you can also email them to me at info Please include your name and Country of origin so that you can be credited for your work if you wish or let me know if you would prefer to remain anonymous.
Unfortunately this year thanks to a broken arm I actually had to go out and buy a card instead of making my own personalised one. Some may think it is quicker to just go and buy a card but there is none of the love or personality that you can add into your own hand made cards.
And if you’ve had to make a special journey to the shops maybe taking the car or catching a bus and then you have to spend 10 minutes or more choosing it and then queue before buying it and travelling back, then I think it is probably just as quick if not quicker to make your own and it is definitely more satisfying for you making it and for the recipient who receives it. Plus you can really personalise it to the person whom you are sending to. For more ideas visit www.easy-cardmaking.com
