How to Make Halloween Party Invitations That Are Spook-Tastic!
By Lisa ReesSo you have a Halloween party planned from the decorations to food and, of course, the all important Halloween costume. But an essential part of any Halloween party is the guests. Invitations are what you need but how do you make Halloween party invitations? There are many Halloween party invitations available to buy but for a totally unique party it is more fun to make you own.
There are two ways to make your own invitations. The first would be to create invites from card and embellishments the other would be to create them using your computer. Or if you’re feeling really creative, you could use both methods together!
For handmade Halloween invitations, you need to start off with some black or orange card. These are traditional Halloween colors along with blood red and ghost white. Cut the card to size and fold if necessary, this would be done if you want a picture on the outside of the card and the party details on the inside.
You can know decorate the card with computer printouts such as clip art or wording or Halloween embellishments such as pumpkins, witches, ghosts etc. with some spooky Halloween lettering.
Let your imagination run riot. You can look at invitations in shops or Halloween images on the Internet for ideas.
The same goes if you are creating your invitation on a word processing or publishing program. However to save printer ink you may not want a solid color background. It may be more cost effective to have a Halloween border around the page and then a larger picture in the center with the party details underneath. I usually make my Halloween invitations A5 size so that I can fit two on a single sheet of paper side by side.
Most people find it easy to make their invites look super scary but then get stuck on the wording. So how do you create Halloween invitation wording?
The simple option is to just write the party details – date, time, location etc, on the invite. But a nice touch is to create a spooky verse which will give everyone an idea of what is to come at the party.
Here are two examples. This first example is for a Halloween party idea for kids:
“BOO, (guests name)!
Calling all witches, ghouls and ghosts on the eve of Halloween when the moon is full, at precisely (time of party) there will be a celebration of spooktastic proportions at the haunted house of (hosts name and address).
Trick or Treat? RSVP to (name and number)”
Whilst this second example is for a Halloween party for teenagers or adults:
“On the Eve of Halloween, the night of the full moon, will you, (guests’ name), be victim to the slayer that is prowling (name of town).
The only sanctuary is in (address of party) at the house of (teenagers name). But this house is reported to be haunted by ghouls and other Halloween creatures at this time of year.
So enter with care as this place of refuge is not for the faint hearted but is better than being caught by the Halloween slayer so make sure you are there by (time of party)!”
Once you have happy, or scared of, your invite it is time to mail them. Just remember to keep a list of everyone you give invitations to so that you can tick them off when they R.S.P.V. then you will a good idea of the amount of guests that will turn up for your Halloween party.

Halloween Book
OK just to let you know that I wouldn’t normally condone or advocate defacing books of any kind. However I thought this was a great idea for using up the hard board baby books that your children have already grown out of to create a new fun Halloween book for them. Or you could pick up a couple of cheap ones from the second hand store.
And if your children are old enough you could make it with them under supervision. Oh and by the way I take no responsibility for this so you might want to make it quite clear to them not to use any of your precious books before you start
I think this idea would work well for a Christmas Book too.
Another fun idea would be to buy a cheap hard backed note book and just embellish the cover with papers, ghosts, bats, stamped embellishments and general Halloween spookiness for your children.
Halloween Fun on a Budget
I know traditionally it is the vampires and werewolves who bite you but for most of us the credit crunch is starting to bite us too, so I thought I would add these articles and videos on Decorations, Costumes and Recipes to make Halloween Fun on a Budget…
1. Halloween Decorations on a Budget
Cheap Halloween Decorations For Your Home
Your Halloween decorations need not to be expensive for them to be really scary. You can make your own to decorate your house for the Halloween. Creating a unique Halloween decoration is fun and exciting and will let you save money that you can spend on buying more candies for the trick or treaters. Here are some tips that you may want to try when making a distinct Halloween decoration for your home.
1. Old dolls or tattered stuff toys
Before donating some of your dolls and stuff toys, you may want to use them as voodoo dolls and zombies for this year Halloween celebration. To make them look a lot spookier, mess their hairs, draw suture marks using a marker and stain the dresses with red paint or water color; you can also add a lot make up under the eyes. You can use dark-colored crayons or water-colors to make them look like zombies. Transform our stuff toys into ghosts and monsters by draping them in a white cloth with eye holes. Add black and red horns to some of the teddy bears and add some fangs and red paint in their mouths. Position them near your door, since they will serve as your welcoming party for your visitors.
2. Cardboard Cut Outs
In a black cardboard paper, you can draw bat shapes and ghoulish outlines and then cut them out. Hang these cut outs using transparent strings to create an illusion of flying. Aside from bats, you can also draw a full moon and hang it up as well.
3. Pumpkins of all sizes
Carve small pumpkins with eye and mouth holes on it and place lights inside to create a daunting glow. Line this up from outside of your door up to the end of your porch. The lights that are emitted by these homemade Halloween pumpkins really do create very creepy effects. For the larger Halloween pumpkins, you can make it as center pieces for your Halloween finger foods when you are having a Halloween party at your house. This will emit soft light to your delectable Halloween party menu: red vampire blood punch, bloody tarts and eye ball cupcakes.
4. Creepy Dim Lighting
Lighting does really work wonders when creating a spooky effect in just anywhere. Prepare translucent colored papers such as red, orange and blue. Cover your lights with these translucent papers, creating a spooky feel in your house.

How To Design Your Own Halloween Costume
Designing your own Halloween costume can be easier than you might think. All it takes is a little time and some imagination. Start by deciding exactly what you would like to be for Halloween. Once you have made this decision your next step would be to collect the necessary materials to design the perfect costume. Be sure and allow yourself enough time to work on the costume, that way if you end up missing an important item you still have time to go out and pick it up. Waiting for the last minute is not a good idea.
Angel - For an angel costume you would need some white material for the body of the outfit. You can purchase some thin, easy to work with wire from most any craft department store. Use this to construct the halo that fits perfectly around your head. Also, pipe cleaners can be used for this. Dress it up by using lace or some type of silky material to sew around as a covering. Some white or gold color material would look perfect for the angel’s wings. Sew some wire through the edges of the wings to help them stand out.
Witch – Have you always wanted to be a witch for Halloween? If so, you simply start by purchasing the black material. Just sew a simple pull over dress then use a belt to pull it tight around your waist. You can either buy a black belt or sew one from left over material. Cut the bottom in a zigzag to add a touch of flare, add some black boots, an old broom for a prop and of course, the pointed black hat. If you want to make the hat yourself you can do so by using cardboard to form the wide brim pointy design and glue the black cloth to the outer surface of the cardboard.
Animal – Perhaps a cute little animal such as a cat, dog or even an adorable little bunny is more what you are looking for. Pipe cleaners sewed to a strap for support make wonderful whiskers, or just use a makeup pencil to color them on. Ears can be made by sewing together material with just enough stuffing to give them shape and body. Sewing wire along the edges of the ears will allow them to be shaped into different positions. To make a tail for a cat or dog you simply need to cut out and sew together a piece of material the correct length. Next, add the stuffing to give it the depth it needs then sew it onto the rest of the costume. A big ball of cotton glued onto a bunny outfit makes a perfect Peter Cotton Tail.

Cat Woman Costume for an Adult or Teen
